Victor Osimhen scored a stunning goal to hand Napoli a crucial victory over AS Roma in Serie A on Sunday, reports Sports247.ng.
In his first start since his return from a three-week injury layoff, the Nigerian international scored the only goal of the game late on at Stadio Olimpico to give Napoli all three points.
Napoli had the best chances and had a penalty award overturned by the video assistant referee in the first half. The visitors’ dominance finally paid off when Osimhen broke the deadlock with ten minutes of normal time left. The striker outmuscled Chris Smalling to a long ball before beating Rui Patricio with a brilliant half-volley from a tight angle to seal the victory for his team.
Napoli has now won 11 games in a row across all competitions. After 11 rounds of matches, the Partenopei are on top of the Serie A table. They have 29 points, three more than second-placed AC Milan.
Osimhen has now scored in three consecutive games since his return from a muscle injury. The 23-year-old scored in Napoli’s 4-2 Champions League victory over Ajax in his first matchback from injury on October 12.
He followed that up with the winner against Bologna in the league after coming off the bench last Sunday. He has made nine appearances this season and scored five goals in total.
Osimhen was recently nominated for the Emerging Player of the Year award at the 2022 Globe Soccer Awards. He’ll look to add to his tally when Napoli takes on Rangers in the Champions League midweek.
