Victor Osimhen is a candidate for November’s Serie A Player of the Month award, reports Sports247.ng.
This marks the second consecutive month the Nigerian international has been shortlisted for the award following his nomination in October. Rafael Leao of AC Milan took home the award last month.
Osimhen scored five goals in three league matches for Napoli last month. The striker carried his rich vein of form into the new month, scoring twice and registering as many assists in three games before the 2022 World Cup break.
Osimhen currently leads the league in scoring with nine strikes. His electric form has greatly contributed to Napoli’s strong start to the season. The Partenopei lead the division with 41 points from 15 games. They have an 8-point advantage over their closest rivals and are the only side yet to test defeat this season.
Osimhen will have to compete with his club teammate Piotr Zielinski, Juventus’ Moise Kean, Inter’s Federico Di Marco, and Giacomo Bonaventura of Fiorentina for the league’s MVP for October.
Osimhen was named to Nigeria’s 23-man squad for the November 17 friendly against Portugal, which will be played in Lisbon. The 23-year-old will however miss the match due to a suspected knock he sustained in Napoli’s game against Udinese last weekend. Cremonese forward Cyriel Dessers has been called up to replace him.
