Napoli and Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has been crowned as the Italian Serie A’s best Under-23 player of the 2021/22 season.
He saw off stiff competition from the likes of AC Milan’s rising star Rafael Leao and Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovic to win the award.
Osimhen had been sidelined for a couple of months due to a cheekbone fracture he suffered in a horrific clash with Inter defender Milan Skriniar in November 2021. He missed the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon this year as a result of the injury.
The 23-year-old has won the U-23 MVP award thanks to his 14 goals and five assists in 26 matches which has helped Napoli secure third position in the league with one game left.
With this honor, Osimhen joins goalkeeper Mike Maignan (Milan), defender Gleison Bremer (Torino), midfielder Marcelo Brozovic (Inter), and attacker Ciro Immobile (Lazio) as the five MVPs of the 2021/22 Serie A season.
Osimhen has 18 goals across all competitions this campaign. He will look to add to his 14 league strikes when Napoli visit Spezia on Sunday for their final game of the season.
