Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, recently crowned Africa’s best player, is optimistic about the Super Eagles’ chances of clinching the title at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Expressing his confidence, Osimhen emphasized the team’s quality and determination.

The Super Eagles last secured the AFCON title in South Africa in 2013, and Osimhen is determined to see the team go all the way in the upcoming tournament hosted by Cote d’Ivoire.
At a dinner organized to celebrate his individual achievement, Osimhen voiced his belief in the squad’s capabilities.
“The most important thing for us now is to go to Ivory Coast and win the tournament,” declared the 25-year-old during the celebratory dinner at the team’s training base in Abu Dhabi on Friday night.
“I believe in this group; we have a bunch of talented players to execute the job. Fingers crossed, and we are going to do so well.”
Osimhen played a pivotal role in the qualifiers, finishing as the top scorer with 10 goals.
With the Super Eagles drawn into Group A alongside hosts Cote d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau, they are set to face the Nzalang Nacional of Equatorial Guinea in their opening fixture at the Alassanne Ouattara Stadium, Ebimpe, Abidjan on Sunday, January 14.
As the team gears up for the AFCON challenge, Osimhen’s confidence and leadership will be vital in the Super Eagles’ pursuit of continental glory.
