Victor Ezeji, a former Nigerian international, has issued a rallying call to the coaches and players of Rivers United, urging them to remain at their peak and stay focused as they prepare to face USM Algers of Algeria in the CAF Confederations Cup this weekend.
Ezeji, a legend of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL), emphasized the importance of concentration and executing their game plan effectively against the well-organized North African side.
“Rivers United, like we always say, for you to be a champion, you need to act like a champion, and that is what is staring them in the face now,” Ezeji stated.
Acknowledging the formidable challenge posed by USM Algiers, he expressed confidence in Rivers United’s ability to secure victory if they adhere to the right principles and maintain focus on match day.
“We don’t want the situation where, two days to the match, we start hearing about financial problems or other issues.
Those things should have been addressed well in advance because the match date has been known for over two weeks,” Ezeji emphasized, urging the team to avoid distractions and focus on the task at hand.
Ezeji highlighted the significance of the upcoming match, describing it as a mammoth task for Rivers United.
However, he expressed belief in the team’s capabilities, citing their qualification for the quarterfinals as evidence of their quality.
“They can do it with the quality of players that they have. They can do it for them to have reached the quarterfinals. They are equally a good side,” he concluded, rallying support for Rivers United as they aim to progress in the CAF Confederations Cup.
