Victor Boniface Receives Strong Assurance Of Regular Invitations To Super Eagles’ Camp

Bayer Leverkusen of Germany striker, Victor Boniface is bound to be part of the Super Eagles’ rooster once again when they resume camping early next year.

Sports247 gathered that, although the product of Lagos-based lower division league side, Real Sapphire FC, has failed to hit target in three starts with the Nigerian national team, he will still be invited to their next camp.

This assurance was provided by no less a person than the Eagles’ caretaker coach, Augustine Eguavoen, who said the quality Boniface exhibits with his German club cannot be overlooked.

While acknowledging that the soft-spoken lad, who previously played for Lefke TSK of Northern Cyprus, Bodo Glimt of Norway and Union Galloise of Belgium, has not found his scoring boot in Nigeria’s colours, Eguavoen stressed that the striker will still get many chances to prove his mettle.

Eguavoen added, “Boniface, we know what he is capable of doing, especially in his club; but when he comes back here, he’s different. We try to give him a lot of playing time, but he cannot put the ball in the back of the net. I’ve spoken to him, to try and I know the reason.”

Though the former Eagles’ defender and captain did not state exactly what caused Boniface’s blunt performances against Benin Republic and Rwanda, he promised to give the 23-year-old hitman more opportunities when the 2026 World Cup qualifiers resume in March.

“Personally, I’m the type of person who wants to give players confidence. I’ve done enough, but he’s still part of the squad. He’ll remain part of the squad,” said the ex-international soccer star.

However, Boniface, who will clock 24 on December 23rd, will have to pray hard that ‘Egu’ will still be in charge of the Eagles at the turn of the year. This is due to emerging hints that top shots of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have reignited their hunt for a foreign technical adviser due to Eguavoen’s inability to stop Rwanda from beating his team in Uyo on Monday.

Should the interim coach eventually give way to a new man in charge at the start of next year, Boniface may find his spot in the squad shaky, especially with pressure mounting from other inform strikers like Taiwo Awoniyi, Gift Orban and Tolu Arokodare.
