Vandrezzer FC’s away fixture against Calabar Rovers, which was scheduled to hold at the U. J. Esuene Stadium on Saturday, has been postponed.
The Matchday Four game has been called off after the Nigeria National League accepted the request of the Cross River State Football Association to postpone the game.
The Cross River football body, in a letter dated 12 December 2019, appealed to the NNL to put back the tie to avoid a clash of dates with the Calabar Carnival and the Nigeria Football Federation Annual Meeting.
Responding to the request, the NNL Chief Operating Officer Lawrence Katken said, “We receive with thanks a letter from Cross River State Football Association dated 12th December, 2019 on the above subject, in which they drew the attention of the League to the Cross River State Carnival which has been scheduled to hold at the U. J. Esuene Stadium beginning from 16th to 31st December, 2019, as well as the Nigeria Football Federation Annual General Meeting scheduled for 17th December, 2019.
“In view of the above, I have the instruction to notify you that the above named week 4 match is hereby placed on hold.”
No new date has been announced for the game, but the NNL said, “a new date will be communicated shortly.”
The fixture is the second Vandrezzer match to be called off since the NNL season kicked off. The Lions’ opening matchday clash — against Jossy United — was postponed due to failure of the Owerri club to complete their registration with the league body.
Despite playing only two games in three matchdays, Rafael Everton’s side are sixth in group B2, which features 11 teams.
The Lions are level on points with Bob Osim’s team, but sit one spot above the Calabar club, thanks to a superior goal difference.
On Sunday, the newly-founded club registered their first win of the season, as goals from Ekerete Udom and Sampson Hussaini gave them a well-deserved 2-0 win over Bayelsa United in Ikot Ekpene.
Rovers, on the other band, were beaten 1-0 at Bendel Insurance, who now top the group.
