University of Agriculture, Makurdi (UAM) football team head coach, Priscilla Vande has been appointed to handle Nigeria’s squad to the world championship in Naples, Italy next year.
Sports247.ng gathered that this comes after she led her team to win the maiden Higher Institutions Football League (HIFL) in Lagos.
The biggest reward for Vande is that she will now lead Team Nigeria to the FISU Football Championship, where she hopes to line out the country’s best players from the HIFL at the global competition.
Vande got the nod after she handled UAM to defeat University of Caklabar (UNICAL) at Agege Stadium, Lagos last Saturday, to become the first school to win the contest among Nigerian universities.
Vande, the only female coach in the league, beat 15 male tacticians to win the HIFL trophy and was named Elite Coach of the Season.
At the award night, the captain of University of Makurdi, Ebuka David Odenigbo, who emerged as the tournament’s highest goals scorer, also won the Elite Player of the Year award.
Vande, who is a graduate of Physical and Health Education and an alumnus of Nigerian Institute of Sports (NIS), Lagos, thanked HIFL for giving her the opportunity to display her coaching acumen.
She said: “Winning the maiden edition of the HIFL means a lot to me and my players.
“Coaching youths is not easy because you have to deal with so many issues.
“Thank God I was able to use my expertise to assemble a disciplined and tactically solid team that won the HIFL.
“I thank the Vice Chancellor of University of Agriculture, Makurdi for his total support.”
