The Governor of Ogun State, Prince (Dr) Dapo Abiodun has commended the efforts of the organizers of the ValueJet Remo 2019 ultra race, expressing his joy over the handling of the Marathon race involving 16 countries in Africa which saw South Africa, Zimbabwe, Nigeria win Gold medals in the 50m race and 5m respectively.
“Importantly this wouldn’t have been realistic without the efforts of Chairman Nilayo Sports Management, Bukola Olopade and Honourable Kunle Shoname, Chairman Valuejet. They have given this State immense recognition with the structure of the race with the presence of the IAU President here in Sagamu.
Speaking during the award celebration at the Gateway Stadium Shagamu, the State Governor retirated his support for grassroots sport development significantly targeting the youth, Stadium renovation and provision of viable sporting equipments in the state.
“On the note of this first ValueJet Ultra Marathon race sponsored by Acquina table waters,Keystone Bank,7up and the principal contributor headed by Honorable Kunle Shoname, the State Government has decided to build on this project, sparingly contribute to sports to enhance the development of the state and it’s youth”, he stated.
“I am glad to commit myself to this project, and I have decided to set up a Sports Commission comprising of private Investors, sponsors and to help in making this a reality, Honorable Kunle Shoname will be the Chairman of this body”, the Governor explained.
Subsequently, ” we will also have a Sport launch Fund separately from the one initially runned, the income generated from contributors will be used as a source of running the dream and project we have which we hope to achieve before the next Marathon”.
The Governor appreciated the turn outs of the people, the Volunteers, Nysc corps members, and the facilitators of the event taking into account various participants.
Sports247.ng gathered that Mbolekwa Thobile (18) from South Africa emerge as winner with 3:00:02 sec timing, Mutriwa Prosper (10) from Zimbabwe came second with a time range of 3:05:25 sec,Ilya Pam Mwa(12) from Nigeria took the 3rd spot with a time span of 3:12:39sec in the male category. Mbanjwa Sanelisiswe from South Africa in the female category won with 3:4:45 time count, Elizabeth Nuhu power, Lagos Women run 2019 3rd spot winner took the second position representing Nigeria with 3:47:39 sec with Scheffer Leilani (South Africa) claiming the 3rd spot within 3:48:01 sec.
