It was just months away when we witnessed the Valuejet Ultra race marathon, the first of it’s kind in Sagamu, Ogun State which saw participants across the African continent with Valuejet led by Hon. Kunle Shoname serving as the main sponsor of the event.
The event was no doubt a success and moving swiftly away from it, the First of its kind Valuejet Para Table Tennis Open was one to give hope to the special table tennis players in the male and female category at the Teslim Balogun Stadium.
Participating countries include Togo, Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, Cote’dovoire, Nigeria, and South Africa with various Sponsors like Value jet, Lagos state sports commission, Sunday Odebode Para-Sport Foundation, LIRS, Nilayosports, Bet9ja, 1960 bet, LASAA, Value Media.
Chineye Obiora in the Women singles class finals won Gold with a cash prize of 500 US dollars, team Nigeria represented by Alabi Oluwafemi and Tajudeen Agunbiade won Five hundred US dollars, 300 US dollars for team Algeria, for the men singles, Nigerian’s Alabi won Gold with another 500 US dollars.
The event which saw Nigerian duo Alabi Oluwafemi and Tajudeen Agunbiade as winners, for the singles and doubles in the Male Category was graced with dignitaries, Bukola Olopade, CEO Nilayo Sports management, the board of members from the ITTF, Hon. Kunle Shoname among many others.
Speaking exclusively to Sports247.ng after Nigeria’s dramatic win over Algeria in the Men finals, Honorable Shoname elatedly revealed, ” It was a very hard game with the close result and I am happy that Nigeria won”.
“The guy lost concentration at some point and all was close to losing it all but he showed Character, tenacity, Nigeria never give up the spirit”.
Further talking about the next edition expectations, “It’s going to be bigger than this next year, this is the first time an event like this is holding in Nigeria and I just got a whisper from the federation that ITTF has written to put this in their calendar, what else could be a bigger success than this”, he concluded.
