Uzoho Gains Support From Nigeria’s Coaching Crew

Anorthosis Famagusta of Cyprus goalkeeper, Francis Odinaka Uzoho has received support from the Super Eagles’ technical crew, following his howler that gave Seychelles a goal in Friday’s last match of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Although Nigerian fans and the media have scolded Uzoho repeatedly for failing to deal with a lame cross that allowed the visitors to initially equalise at Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr argued that the lad gave a good account of himself.

Sports247.ng gathered further that, although Uzoho has apologised for the error that allowed Seychelles temporarily back into Friday’s game, Rohr has parried any fault of the lad’s part, during what the coach tagged a tough match in Asaba.

Rohr pointed out that Uzoho had a rude start to his days on loan at Famagusta from Deportivo La Coruna of Spain, as the lad was entwined in a fake health certificate scandal caused by his club.

The Franco-German gaffer reckoned further that it has not been easy for Uzoho settling down at his new base, following the administrative blunder, hence his verdict that the youngster needs support, not flak.

Rohr stated: “(Uzoho) isn’t playing so much for his club due to administrative problem.

“He made a mistake against Seychelles. This kind of games are very difficult.

“Don’t forget he performed well at the World Cup. We wanted to see him play again and this was the opportunity for us.”
