Uyi Akpata, having been re-elected unopposed as President of the Nigeria Cricket Federation, reaffirmed his ambitions to raise the standard of cricket nationally and continentally.
Addressing stakeholders after his election in Abuja, Akpata laid out a vision aimed at placing Nigeria among Africa’s top cricketing nations and pushing both the men’s and women’s teams into the world’s top-20 rankings.

He emphasized infrastructure and career development. “We need quality grounds, proper coaching, fitness facilities, systems that support players from grassroots up,” he said. He also spoke of partnerships, both domestically and with international bodies, to enhance coaching, umpiring, and competition standards.
Akpata acknowledged that while Nigeria has produced talented individuals, inconsistent funding and lack of opportunities have hampered progress. Under his new mandate, efforts will be focused on standardizing league competitions, ensuring players are compensated, and expanding pathways to international exposure.
Importantly, he pledged to strengthen women’s cricket: “Our women’s team must enjoy the same respect, resources and opportunities as the men.”
He concluded on a note of unity and determination: “This second term is not about promises—it’s about implementation. Nigeria cricket will grow, the players will excel, and together we will achieve what many say is impossible.”
