Defending champions Edo Queens began their title defence with a 5-0 victory over Abia Angels on Wednesday. The Benin City-based team displayed their offensive depth as five players found the net, ensuring a dominant start to the 2024/2025 NWFL campaign.
Goals from Miracle Usani, Emem Essien, Goodness Osigwe, Loveth Edeh, and Kafayat Mafishere highlighted the attacking brilliance of Moses Aduku’s side.

Uroko Valentina, the team’s defensive stalwart, expressed her delight after the win.
“I’m excited and grateful to God for this victory. My teammates put in a great effort, and I did my best to keep a clean sheet,” Valentina said.
She also shared her ambitions for the season.
“My ultimate goal is to win the league title again with Edo Queens. I pray for continued success and victories ahead,” she concluded.
Edo Queens will aim to maintain their winning momentum when they face Heartland Queens at the Dan Anyiam Stadium on January 22.
