The much-awaited Unity Cup inter-wards football tournament would kick off on 23, October, Sunday at Igbogbo Police Barrack playground, Ikorodu, Lagos.
19 wards are expected to take part in the competition being bankrolled by Awesu Dynasty Foundation For The Less Privileged.
The project Director of Wide Scope Global Sports Company Limited who doubles as match coordinator, Ogunbunmi Abolore said the inter wards football tournament is to create healthy rivalry among the 19 wards in Ikorodu and its environs.
He explained that the tournament is not a do-or-die affair but to give the wards a platform to raise football teams to compete for honors in the forthcoming Unity inter-wards football tournament.
“This is the first of its kind and we are organizing such a football event that would bring all wards in Ikorodu together. The tourney is designed to foster unity, friendliness, and love among the youths in Ikorodu so I expect all the wards to raising their football teams and fans so that when the tournament starts, they would be supporting their teams,” he said.
Abolore said the winners would go home with a giant trophy and prize money and noted that all the outstanding players would be rewarded with gift items courtesy of Mr. Awesu Abdul-Azeez Adekunle who is contesting for Ikorodu House of Representatives under the platform of People Democratic party PDP.
He however urged the participating players and coaches to be of good conduct and shun any social vices that can bring the tourney into disrepute.
