University of Port Harcourt sports centre will come alive on October 31, as the institution is set to host the 14th West Africa Universities Games (WAUG).
The 2018 WAUG is billed to hold from October 31 to November 12 in The Garden City, with 16 West African universities expected to attend.
While confirming that a total of 5,000 undergraduate athletes will compete in 16 events, UNIPORT vice-chancellor, Professor Ndowa E.S. Lale promised that it will be an experiential and memorable sports fiesta for all the competitors.
He also vowed adequate trappings for millions of spectators, journalists and tourists who are being expected to grace the occasion. A
Lale further assured that the institution’s sports officials are eagerly waiting for the Games to begin, so that their athletes, who have dominated three consecutive editions, can again begin to showcase their prowess.
Adding to the enthusiasm at UNIPORT, sports scientist and marketing expert, Professor Ken Anugueje said: “We are the undisputed champions of the WAUG.
“University of Port Harcourt is a sports destination and our athletes are once more ready to demonstrate that our commitment to sports development is not a joke.”
