The Umuahia Township Stadium, serving as the home ground for Abia Warriors Football Club, has undergone significant improvements to its turf in preparation for the upcoming matches in the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League season.
Led by Coach John Obuh, the management of Abia Warriors has diligently worked to restore the stadium’s playing surface to an acceptable standard.
Previously, the stadium faced a ban from hosting matches due to concerns over the condition of the turf.
However, with dedicated efforts from the management team, the stadium has now been rejuvenated, meeting the required standards set by the Nigeria Premier Football League organizers.
This achievement marks a significant milestone for Abia Warriors and reflects their commitment to providing a top-quality playing environment for both players and spectators.
During an inspection tour of the stadium, Sir Charles Nwokocha, a member of the Abia Warriors board and retired FIFA badged referee, expressed his satisfaction with the improvements.
He praised the consistency and dedication of the club’s management, particularly Coach John Obuh, in ensuring that the necessary steps were taken to revitalize the turf.
Nwokocha’s positive assessment of the stadium’s current state reflects the collective efforts of the team involved in the renovation process.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining the stadium’s standards to avoid the challenges associated with playing matches at alternative venues.
With the completion of the turf restoration, Abia Warriors Football Club is poised to resume their Nigeria Premier Football League campaign at their home ground.
Their first match at the rejuvenated Umuahia Township Stadium will be against Remo Stars Football Club, signalling a new chapter for the club as they aim to compete at their best in the league.
