Umar Sadiq has been crowned U.D Almeria Player of the Season for 2021/22, following a campaign in which the Nigerian performed consistently to help the club gain promotion to La Liga.
Sadiq capped off a fine season with 18 goals and 9 assists in the Segunda Division. He finished the season with the most goal contributions in the league. He also netted once in the Copa Del Rey.
“Umar Sadiq picks up the golden shovel which accredits him as the best red-and-white player of the season. A great season,” Almeria shared on social media.
Sadiq skipped Nigeria’s tour of the United States to concentrate on club commitments, and he played a key role in Almeria’s promotion to La Liga last Sunday. In the final game of the season, against Leganés, the striker scored a second-half equalizer for Los Rojiblancos to make it 2-2 on the scoreboard. The goal ensured Almeria finished in first position after rivals Eibar fell to a shock 1-0 home defeat.
Signed from Partizan Belgrade €5m in 2020, Sadiq has scored 41 total goals and 15 assists for Almeria in 81 games. The club will play in Spain’s top division next season for the first time since 2014/15.
