Ugandan female golfer, Patricia Mbabazi has declared her determination to hit a high level of success at the ongoing 21st IBB Ladies Golf Championship in Abuja.
Although Mbabazi acknowledged that it is a rich field of esteemed competitors, sports247.ng reports that her plan is to finish with a placement that is as high as possible.
Mbabazi explained that she is hopeful of finishing amongst the top-45 finalists at the three-day gross event, which teed off at IBB International Golf & Country Club on Friday.
Ahead of Sunday, Mbabazi said she would be delighted to put some heat of the leading trio of her compatriot, Eva Magala and Amina Wilfred as well as Nigeria’s Rachael Danjuma, who were the top at the end of Day One.
As many as 160 amateur lady golfers began the contest, which continued in heated style on Saturday, as they aim to make the cuts for Sunday’s final.
While casting a look at her prospects, Sweden-based Mbabazi, who got a gross of 105 to place 40th on Day One, said she can make it to the finale on Sunday once she corrects her short play.
“My game began very well but I realised that my problem was the short game. The putting was challenging as well as getting out of the bunkers.
“I made the cut after finishing among the top 30 in 2018. So, my immediate goal is to be able to make the cut for the second year running and play on the final day.
“Knowing what my challenges were will indeed help me improve on my game. I am also aware that this year’s event is listed on the World Amateur Golf (WAG) ranking calendar.
“So, I intend to use this rare opportunity to amass a lot of points so as to improve my ranking,” said Mbabazi, who also stated delight at the overall organisation of the event In Nigeria’s capital.
