Two changes to the starting line-up were made from the derby by Pioli: Pobega and Chukwueze coming in for Reijnders and Pulisic.
Having completed the summer switch from Spanish side Villarreal, the Super Eagles winger have been mostly used from the bench in all Serie A games due to heavy competition on the left wing but Pioli has backed him through and through to be a big star for the Milan club.
He was replaced in the 61st minute by the fresh legs of Christian Pulisic as they found it hard to break down a resilient Magpies defence line despite creating a host of chances to end the tie goalless.
