With major qualifying games still ongoing around the world, the world soccer governing body, FIFA has announced the date and venue for the U20 FIFA World Cup. Sports247.ng report.
The biennial tournament was initially fixed to hold in 2020 but had to be postponed due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic which affected global activities.
FIFA on Thursday announced Indonesia as host country and the championship will run from 20 May to 11 June 2023.
“Following discussions with the Indonesia Football Federation, as well as consultations with all confederations, the Bureau has confirmed that the tournament will be played from 20 May to 11 June 2023,” the statements stated.
Nigeria’s Flying Eagles are still in contention to play in the competition having qualified to play in the 2023 (U-20) African Cup of Nations in Egypt.
The semi-finalists of the tournament in Egypt will get to represent the continent in Indonesia.
