U20 AFCON: Big Boost As Flying Eagles Fly Past Cote d’voire In Friendly

The Flying Eagles of Nigeria preparations toward the U20 AFCON received a big morale boost as they defeated Cote d’Ivoire 2-0 on Wednesday at the Stade Félix Houphouët Boigny, Sports247 reports.

As part of their preparations for the U20 Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for Cote d’Ivoire in April 2025, the team engaged the host in a friendly on Thursday and won 2-0 courtesy of goals from the team captain, Daniel Bameiyi and forward Olise Divine.

The Zubairu Yusuf led boys scored two goals in quick succession after being held to by the host for 80th minute after the host committed a foul in the box in the 79th minute.

Daniel Bameiyi, the team captain made no mistake from 12 yards, firing a low one past the goal keeper to give Nigeria a deserve lead.

Two later, it Divine Olise who stepped up and fire the Flying Eagles to a two goal advantage to ensure the WAFU B champions won their first international friendly as they Intensify their preparations for the U20 AFCON.

The win is a huge morale and confidence boost for the team, who found herself in the proverbial group of death which consist of Egypt , Morocco and South Africa.

Only two teams will emerged from the group while the semi finalists will qualify to represent to Africa at the U20 FIFA World Cup.

The seven-time African champions take on their Ivorian counterparts at the Stade Félix Houphouët Boigny in the Ivorian capital again clash on Friday at the same venue.
