In the bid to grab one of three tickets to the FIFA U17 women’s world cup holding in India, in October 2022, the Nigerian National U17 women’s team, The Flamingos are ready to trade tackles with the Ethiopian women’s U17 national team Friday 1 pm Nigerian time.
Both teams have come this far, from the first rounds of the qualifiers, now to the fourth round and the coach of the Nigerian side has been talking tough.
Speaking to sports247 in a pre-match interview, head coach of the Flamingos, Bankole Olowookere, had nursed the intention of making the return leg in Nigeria a mere formality for his side.
“We are fully prepared psychologically, physically, and tactically. We expected this before we got to this stage. We set our priorities right from the onset and we are sure to get the qualification ticket.
The Flamingos have enjoyed cruise control all through the qualification series as they are yet to concede a single goal. This has given coach Olowookere bragging rights into this tie. ” This is no element of bragging, it’s just to give millions of Nigerians assurance and we are going to do the job here and make the match in Nigeria a mere formality”
The Flamingos have given a hundred percent performance so far in the qualification, having scored a total of fourteen goals and conceding none. They displaced DR Congo 8:0 on aggregate and matched past Egypt 6:0 on aggregate as well and they are hopeful the team will do another clean sheet in the double-legged encounter. The return leg will be played on the 5th June 2022 where the three world cup bound teams will be known.
