Highly-rated Manchester City starlet, Tom Dele-Bashiru has expressed his delight after scoring his first competitive goal for Nigeria in their 4-0 win over Qatar at the ongoing U20 World Cup in Poland.
Maxwell Effiom opened the scoring in the 12th minute with Henry Offia grabbing a second 12 minutes later. Dele-Bashiru added a third in the 68th minute before Aliu Salawudeen wrapped it up in the 74th minute to give the Flying Eagles a convincing start to the tournament.
“I scored my first goal for Nigeria in my very first game for the team. I’m over the moon,” Dele-Bashiru expressed his delight after the game.
“We’re a strong side and have got a lot of technically gifted players. I think we can go a long way at this tournament.”
It was Nigeria’s first opening game victory at a FIFA U-20 World Cup since 2011, when they defeated Guatemala 5-0.
In 2013, Nigeria lost 3-2 to Portugal in the opening game, in 2015 it was a 4-2 loss against Brazil, and they failed to qualify for the finals in 2017.
