The national U:20 softball camp has opened in Yenagoa in Bayelsa State capital with about one hundred and fifty players, twenty national team coaches, and a foreign coach in the camp.

The softball camp opened on the 11th to end on the 24th of April, 2024 with daily training at the Samson Siasia stadium.
Director of Sports Bayelsa State Sports Council Sir Braveman Wodi gave the hint while assessing the level of progress of the girls, said the softball program was capable of engaging the minds of the girl child in order not to get involved in social vices, drug abuse and unwanted pregnancy.
According to him, the essence of the softball camping program in Yenagoa is to groom and nurture talents that would represent Nigeria in the 2028 Olympics games in the United States of America USA, pointing out that it is a long term project that is capable of producing softball stars for the nation.
Sir Wodi explained that the softball camping exercise has the best of coaches from across the world as well as the top officials of the softball federation in Yenagoa. stating that the program has further affirmed Bayelsa government policy of giving all sports equal chances.
He asserted that the idea to bring the camping program to Bayelsa was as a result of the State’s triumph in softball in the last National Sports Festival held in Asaba, Delta State and to introduce young girls to softball.
The Director said the camping program would move to another state within the interval of six months with the aim of discovering more talents, as these set of players would be matured before the 2028 Olympics games.
Twenty five states comprising four players in each of the states apart from host Bayelsa who have more are currently in Yenagoa for the weeks long exercise.
