Troost-Ekong, a Nigerian international finally breaks his silence on social media a week after Watford’s demotion to the Championship was confirmed.
Watford defender William Troost-Ekong has sent an honest message to the club’s faithful after they suffered relegation from the Premier League. The Hornets were officially condemned to the EFL Championship on May 7 following a 1-0 loss at Crystal Palace.
Troost-Ekong has now penned a message of thanks to the Watford fans for their support all season and assured them that the team will give their all to return to the top flight next season. Taking to his Facebook and Instagram handles, he wrote:
“Thank you Hornets for staying behind the team and supporting us all through this rollercoaster season. We haven’t delivered what you deserved. As a Watford fan first and foremost I share your disappointment.
“As unforgettable as the promotion was a year ago this will also be a season which bar some special moments will stay with me for all the wrong reasons. We did it before and the Watford I know can do it again next season. Thanks again, Will.”
Troost-Ekong joined Watford on a five-year deal from Serie A club Udinese in 2020. He has made 17 appearances in the Premier League this season. Watford will meet Chelsea in their final match on Sunday, May 22.
