William Troost-Ekong will not play a part when Nigeria takes on the Algerian Desert Foxes on Tuesday, September 27, reports Sports247.
The centre-half has left the Super Eagles camp and will return to Watford as a precaution after picking a knock in Friday night’s test game against Algeria’s home-based side which ended in a 2-2 draw.
“William Troost-Ekong has left camp as a result of an injury cropped during the test game. He is back to base for further checks. Wishing you a speedy recovery Ekong,” reads a tweet on the Super Eagles Twitter handle.
Troost-Ekong has expressed his disappointment with the development while also wishing the team luck ahead of Tuesday’s game at the Oran Olympic Stadium in Algeria. He said:
“Unfortunately I picked up something in our game yesterday. Back home now to sort it out. All the best to the boys on Tuesday.”
Super Eagles Jose Peseiro will have to make do with a heavily depleted squad for the game against the North Africans with a number of key players unavailable due to injuries.
The likes of Victor Osimhen and Umar Sadiq were not called up owing to injuries. Meanwhile, Wilfred Ndidi, Emmanuel Dennis, Ahmed Musa, Samuel Chukwueze and Henry Onyekuru have all withdrawn from the squad for injuries of their own.
