The president of Nigeria Triathlon Union (NTU), Wale Oladunjoye says the sport’s impact will be felt better this year, because the body has finalised plans to take it to schools and communities across the country.
Sports247.ng gathered that the NTU want to reach out to more youths and zealots of the sport nationwide in 2019, hence their preparation of a game plan that will touch academic institutions and grassroots clubs.
Oladunjoye disclosed further that the union plans on taking triathlon to the door steps of youngsters in the country through schools and clubs.
He also disclosed that they will organise officiating clinics, coaching courses and other development programmes.
The NTU boss said such will be staged with support from International Triathlon Union and Nigeria Olympic Committee to improve delivery in the interior areas of the country.
He also noted that the sixth national championship will hold in April and May, with top stars expected to showcase their skills at the contest.
Oladunjoye then spoke about funding for their programmes, for which he said increased and improved sponsorship’s drive and partnership links would be reinvigorated.
The NTU boss concluded by revealing that a swimming event will take place in open waters, like it is done at international competition, as the venue has already been secured, while all roads for running and biking events of the competition also outlined.
He said: “Our plan as a body is to take triathlon to door steps of teeming youngsters nationwide through schools/clubs at the geopolitical zones with hubs at the state capital and schools/clubs compete quarterly.”
