The inaugural WAFU Zone B U-17 Girls Cup kicked off on December 12, 2024, in Ghana, marking a significant milestone in West African women’s football, Sports247 reports.
The tournament opener between Ghana’s Black Maidens and Benin was not only a showcase of budding talent but also a landmark for women in officiating, as Nigeria’s Gbemisola Yusuf served as the center referee.

Assisting Yusuf on the field was her compatriot Racheal Onyekwere, who served as Assistant Referee 2.
The officiating team was further strengthened by Isaaka Loba from Togo (Assistant Referee 1) and Idi Oumouru Nana Aicha from Niger (Fourth Official).
This diverse group of referees underscored WAFU’s commitment to developing women officials across the region.
