According to prominent football pundit Dean Jones, Tottenham Hotspur has taken the lead in the pursuit of central defender Tosin Adarabioyo, who is Super Eagles-eligible central defender.
Tottenham is actively seeking to bolster their defensive options for the upcoming season, with Adarabioyo from Fulham emerging as one of the top targets. The North London club conceded the highest number of goals among teams in the top half of the Premier League table last season, highlighting the urgent need to rectify their defensive vulnerabilities.
Alongside Adarabioyo, Tottenham is also considering Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven and Burkina Faso international Edmond Tapsoba as potential signings to strengthen their backline.
Although Jones acknowledges Tottenham’s position at the forefront of the race, he cautions that no concrete negotiations have taken place between Fulham and Tottenham thus far.
“While contacts haven’t been overly strong at this stage, Tottenham is leading the way, so to speak,” Jones explained during an interview with the Fulhamish Podcast. “Adarabioyo falls on the lower end of their targeting spectrum, but he is being considered as an option. They are also evaluating other defenders, such as Lenglet.”
Jones further elaborated, stating that Tottenham’s interest in Adarabioyo is stronger than initially anticipated. However, discussions have not progressed significantly, and it seems that Tottenham is exploring the possibility of generating additional interest from other clubs should Adarabioyo become available.
Adarabioyo, whose contract with Fulham is set to expire next year, has expressed his desire to leave Craven Cottage this summer. The Manchester City academy graduate joined Fulham in 2020 and has amassed an impressive 107 appearances across all competitions, contributing three goals and two assists to the team’s cause.
