Nigerian table tennis veteran, Segun Toriola has tagged the recent 19th Sports Festival in Abuja as the worst he has attended ever.
The five time African champion stated in a no-holds-barred chat with sports247.ng that, although the just concluded festival accorded young athletes the chance to compete with old ones, it lacked fans appeal.
While stressing that the festival should be a platform for discovering talents, Toriola reckoned that not many young ones came through, as older stars still won most of the medals on offer.
Toriola stressed: “This is the worst festival I ever experienced since its inception.
“This year’s edition of the festival was so dull, because most of the states were not fully committed.
“Without the states proving means for new talents to come through and those who they took not taken care of properly, it makes the situation really bad for Nigerian sports.”
