Ahead of the National Sports Festival, which commences on February 14th, Coach of the Lagos State Female Football team, Olowu Olayinka has admitted that too much postponement of the festival has really affected her team, despite the fact that she still believes her team will do well at the event, with the full support always coming from Lagos State Football Association.
The National Sports Festival which ought to have been held last year had been postponed on numerous occasions, most especially due to the high increase of Covid 19 cases in the country.
Following much postponement, the event has finally been slated to commence on February 14th by the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development in Nigeria, with the agreement of all participating teams and bodies, abiding by the rules and guidelines of the Health Organizations.
Speaking with Sports247 ahead of the upcoming National Sports showdown, the Lagos State Female Football team, Olowu Olayinka has admitted that the much postponement of the Date for the festival really affected her team, as some of her key players had left due to much postponement of the event, as she has had to patch in some amateur players into her team. she, however, stated that regardless of that, she and her teammates will do all their possible best to emerge victoriously and make Lagos State proud in Benin, come February when the festival commences.
“Seriously, this issue of Prosponement of the event really affected our team a lot. Because most of these players that are amateur which we have gathered together and prepared very hard to play the festival has left, due to much postponing. We lack most of our players which we intend to take to Benin. Most of these girls aren’t patient to wait, so that’s why most of them left to find something to do because they are amateur players”.
“I really appreciate Lagos State, because we have a lot of amateur players everywhere. Even if my assembled amateur players leave, we still have many amateur players who can replace them. They are ready to make themselves and the state proud at the Festival, come February”.
“By the Grace of God, and with the efforts and training of the players and the Lagos State Sports Commission and the Lagos State Football Association, we are going to Benin to win the Gold medal”, she stated.
Coach Olowu Olayinka, popularly known as Coach Omoh and her team has lined up some friendly games in the coming weeks as they prepare and look forward to the National Sports Festival which commences in February 14th in Benin.
