Tobi Amusan, the reigning world record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles, has reassured her fellow Nigerians of an impressive showing at the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Despite not being able to defend her world title at the 19th World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Amusan’s remarkable world record of 12.12 seconds, established during the U.S. edition of the championship in Oregon last year, remains unbroken.
During a gathering at the Nigerian Embassy in Budapest, where Team Nigeria was hosted by the Ambassador, Tobi Amusan expressed her determination, stating, “We came to Budapest to give our best, we actually did, but the results may not be the best outing. Paris 2024 Olympic Games will surely be different.”

Tobi Amusan, who holds records in the Commonwealth, Africa, and Nigeria for the 100m hurdles, extended her gratitude to the Nigerian government and its people for their unwavering support for athletics.
She underlined her commitment to future competitions, emphasizing the intention to bring joy to her countrymen through her performances.
Nigeria’s Ambassador to Hungary, Serbia, Croatia, and Bosnian Herzegovina, Dr. Modupe Enitan Irele, praised all Nigerian athletes and officials participating in the 19th World Athletics Championships. She commended their talents and expressed pride in their achievements.
Ambassador Irele directed her attention to Amusan and acknowledged the unbroken world record, offering words of encouragement for the future: “Each Game is different, and as you go back home, hold your head high. As for your World Record, and other athletes holding different records, I pray that you will be the one to break your own record.”
The Technical Director of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Samuel Onikeku, conveyed gratitude on behalf of AFN’s President, Chief Tonobok Okowa, and the board members. He appreciated the warm reception received from both the hotel and the Embassy.
Rita Mosinde, the Secretary General of AFN, extended thanks to Ambassador Irele and the entire secretariat staff for their dedicated efforts.
