Nigeria’s qualification for next year’s AFCON slated to hold in Cameroun has continued to elicit excitements among lovers of Nigerian football at home and diaspora.
Speaking from his base in Tokyo, Japan, sportspreneur and president of Iganmu FC, Abayomi Egbayelo expressed his happiness on the feat achieved by Super Eagles who defeated Lesotho 3-0 in Lagos to qualify for the African championship unbeaten.
” I am delighted that the Super Eagles defeated Lesotho resoundingly. The boys showed hunger and determination. They played with cohesion and flair against a stubborn opponent.
The highly resourceful football investor went on to predict that the Gernot Rohr tutored side are good enough to win the AFCON championship next year.
” The Super Eagles team is good to go for the cup. The boys are determined to prove a point that they are another generation of great players who want to make history
He, however, advised that success at the championship would be premised on early and adequate preparations. He also advised that Rohr should somewhat copy from late Stephen Keshi’s success template by bringing more home-based players into the team.
” Late Stephen Keshi was able to successfully blend the home and foreign-based lads together. And we vividly remember the successes he achieved, including winning the 2013 AFCON in South Africa,” Egbayelo, who holds a doctorate degree in sports management recalled sweetly.
