Abuja’s foremost gymnastics club, Tony International Gymnastics (TIG) has signed a partnership agreement with Japan Embassy as the first ever Kendama-toothed Sports games will take place at Moshood Abiola National stadium Gymnastic hall on Saturday 1st of April 2023 in Abuja on 3:00 pm Nigeria Time.
The partnership agreement will ensure Nigeria as a country takes advantage of all sports games available in the whole world
The Japan Embassy promised to provide gift items for winners at the forthcoming fun day event while also sending some of their coaches to training programs in Japan
There is no doubt the partner is now contributing to the growth and development of sports such as gymnastics, Karate, Taekwondo, and now Kendama sports
However, The Kendama game is a traditional Japanese skill toy that consists of a handle (ken), a pair of cups (Sarada), and a ball (Tama) that are all connected together by a string. The game is played by tossing the ball into the air and attempting to catch it on the sticking point.
The Games will enable many Nigerians who have talent in Kendama Games the opportunity to play the game for the first time in Nigeria.
Speaking in Abuja while receiving the TIG contingent, Japan’s ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Matsunaga Kazuyoshi commended TiG for their contribution to gymnastics development in the federal capital territory, FCT, and Nigeria
“I must commend you for finding time to be here and we at the embassy are looking forward to supporting you in your next event, not only that I will also be performing some fitness routines with the kids ‘
President of Tig, Tony Asuquo thanked the ambassador for his support saying ‘i must say a big thank you to you for granting us the audience, not only that, even promised to support our fun day, and also planning to send some of our coaches for training in Japan to equip themselves is beyond our expectations
Part of the arrangement also includes providing food for the kids on the event day.
TIG has been at the forefront of nurturing young talents with some going ahead to represent their States and Nigeria at national sports festivals and international competitions.
