Gbenga Dosunmu, coach of the Nigeria’s Special Eagles revealed that a total of three players among those currently in camp will not make Nigeria’s squad to this month’s African Amputee Football Cup of Nations (AAFCON) in Egypt.
The 16-team competition, which is set to hold from April 18 to 26 in Egypt, will serve as qualifier for the 2026 WAFF World Cup, but three Nigerian players will be left at home, while 15 make the trip.
Coach Gbenga Dosunmu disclosed that, though he currently has 18 players in camp, only 15 can be registered for the competition.
He, however, pointed out that all the players in camp, including four based in Turkey, are doing well, such that it will not be easy for him to make his final selection for the trip to Cairo.
“Our preparations have been going well. The boys have been doing well in training,” Dosunmu opened up to Sports 247.
“We have four professionals from Turkey, and they are also training well. We are expecting the best from all of them.
“We have 18 players in camp, but we will register only 15, and the remaining three will go home.
“Once they leave, we’ll start closed camping and take it that way to the final stage of preparation, and we’ll be okay with that.”
Dosunmu also acknowledged that the build-up has not been easy but thanked the players for showing dedication to the mission ahead of them.
He also praised the lads for being diligent in their efforts and for complying with all aspects of training strategies outlined by the technical crew.
