The new national champion and Nigeria’s fastest man, Favour Ashe has declared that “this is just the beginning” for him after he won the men’s 100m event at the national Athletics Championship in Benin, Edo state.
Favour ran a time of 9.99s at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium, Benin to claim the title and become Nigeria’s fastest man yesterday evening.
Joining a league of legends to have ran, a sub 10s in Nigeria, Favour said “I’m very happy right now, I’m so grateful to God” when asked by journalists how he felt to be called the national champion.
The Nigerian nightmare as he is fondly called said he is prepared for the coming events, the World championship and the Common Wealth games.
“Before I was feeling only 50%, right now I’m 100% boosted to go there and do some good race.”
“My first in Oregon (venue for the World championship), I went there to feel it, this time in going for something big,” He added.
Favour who is racing at his third national championship noted that this season has been a “wonderful season.”
“I have been running 10s, I knew it was just matter of time. This is just the beginning for me, I know will do more of this.”
He also gave a word of advise to the Athletics Federation of Nigeria saying they need to be consistent to help younger athletes grow and develop.
“We have good sprinters right now, Nigeria will soon be on the world map in Athletics but our federation need to do what they have to do.”
“At first they should keep to time in the competition and give more better welfare to athletes.”
Favour moved to the United States this year on scholarship after showing his athletic qualities at a youth championship in the United States last year.
