Araromi Ibukunoluwa David, Gateway United FC’s goalkeeper currently battles completion of his National Diploma final year project at the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta Ogun State.
The goalkeeper who was in goal all through the first half of the Nigeria National League season for southern conference group B1 table toppers, Gateway United, explained that combining education with football has been really difficult.
“It’s not easy combining both I must confess,” Ibukun told Sports247.
“But with determination, support of my parents and ultimately God’s love I can scale through because I know there is life after football,” he added.
The goalkeeper explained that he identified his talent early on and had the support of his parents who also advised he complete his university education to help with life after football.
“My goalkeeping talent was obvious and I quickly made up my mind to become a professional goalkeeper. I told my parent about it and they encouraged me and also advised me on the need to strive to complete my higher education irrespective of the fact I want to become a footballer,” the goalkeeper said.
“I am presently working on my National Diploma’s Project and the season is on half time break, hopefully, the league will resume again on Saturday,” he concluded.
Ibukun was in goal for all eleven games of the first half of the season for Gateway, conceding only six goals and kept seven clean sheets to keep the team at the top of their group standings with 22 points.
