Former Super Eagles striker Brown Ideye has revealed that there is a high level of corruption in the Nigeria’s football circle.
He has also promised that he will one day expose the activities and perpetrators by revealing the names behind it in the nearest future. Ideye, who now plies his trade for Greek Super League outfit, Aris Thessaloniki was one of the key stars in the Super Eagles side that won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.
Prior to the world cup of 2014 in Brazil, the striker was surprisingly dropped after participating in the qualifiers from start to finish. Uche Nwofor and Micheal Uchebo were the unknown players included in the squad by the then handler of the side Stephen Keshi.
This revelation is coming days after fomer teammate Chinedu Ogbuke revealed that he was asked to pay a bribe so he could be added to the 2014 world cup team. The former Olympiacos of Greece star has promised to one day write a book to tell his own side of the story. He told Oma Akatugba in an instagram video chat
“Before I retire, I will write a book and pour everything out, We all know that there is a lot of corruption in our football. But, there is a limit you can go when it comes to corruption and bribery.
“So many things didn’t add up at the time. I was asking myself if I did something wrong or there was something I didn’t do. Not going to that World Cup, God used Keshi to sideline me for the West Bromich Albion job.
“I haven’t told anyone what really transpired, only my spouse knows about the story. It was painful, I felt like saying something but I decided to get hold of myself.”
This is the second allegation leveled against the system in less than a month as we hope that others may still come out to give reasons they miss the world cup. We also hope that names will be mentioned as well.
