After an opening day 2-0 defeat to Young Star FC, Synergy Ultimate SC bounced back to winning ways defeating Liqui Moly FC 2-0 to go second on the group table, providing them a chance to qualify for the semi final which vanished almost immediately after a 2-1 loss to BYT Academical FC.
Dare Akanbi, coach of Synergy Ultimate Sports Club expressed joy at the win after the 2nd group game and also urged his boys to remain focused on the next game to seal qualification as there was still work to be done.
“After the loss, I told my boys not to worry that we were up to the task as there was another game at hand. I told them to relax and not panic and just play and I’m happy for the win,” Dare told Sports247.
“Ahead of the next game, I’ll simply tell them to forget about the win and focus on the next game and I believe we will get victory,” he continued.
However, it was not to be as the team crashed out on the last group match day losing to BYT Academical FC which meant that BYT and Young Stars progressed from the group and 1st and 2nd respectively into the semi final.
Assessing the tournament so far, the coach attested to the quality of talents on display and called on the NFF as well as other bodies to checkout the players and take a cue as these lads can play in any club in Europe.
“It’s a very good tournament. I’m calling on the NFF to come and checkout the talents here. There are Super Eagles players here, EPL players, La Liga players, Bundesliga players and so many bunch of talented players which they need to checkout,” Dare said.
