The Creative Championship League and Cup is back after going on a compulsory break last month to accommodate its teams to play in the Nationwide League One, a competition that saw TCC teams shine bright like a diamond.
Coach of Gbagada FC Akinyelu Olajide spoke to Sports247 on the return of the TCC and preparation for its next game against the new NNL side Ijebu United.
“We’re happy the TCC is back. One of the objectives of TCC is to prepare the members for the NLO and if u look at it, Remo Stars lost out on promotion by goal difference, Ijebu United got promoted to NNL by winning their playoffs, we Gbagada lost just one game and finished third, Valiant also did well and we’re happy the teams did well,” Olajide said.
“Resuming the league now is also good because there’s a chance the FA Cup will kick off in May and we have five games in TCC which will help prepare and we’re glad we’re back now,” he added.
Gbagada FC next face Iganmu FC in the return of the TCC League even as both sides faced one another in the Nationwide League One and Akinyelu Olajide has played down the last meeting as a different game entirely.
“We played them at the NLO but that’s a different competition to the TCC and I’m sure the squad that played in the TCC is different from those that played in the NLO. We finished well before the break at TCC, winning games back to back and we hope to continue from where we stopped with three games left and about five teams left in the race. We’ve got the semi-finals of the Cup as well and April is going to be filled for us but we hope to finish strong before the FA Cup,” Olajide said.
