The Postponement Of National Sports Festival Is For The Safety Of Athletes – Yusuf Adesina

The postponement of the Edo 2020, National Sports Festival has no doubt, foiled the plans of the teams slated to participate in the tournament.

The festival games were scheduled for February but have now been moved to a further date in April by the Minister of Youth ans Sports development in connection with the Edo State government.

Sports247 interviewed the head coach of Team Lagos (men) Yusuf Adesina about the development. Adesina states that he is not disappointed by the delay and believes that it’s for the safety of the participants with the spread of Covid-19 putting athletes at risk.

“Well, we are fully prepared but it’s beyond what we can decide,” Adesina told Sports247.

“It is the minister of sports and the Edo state government which have agreed to postpone the festival to April.”

He revealed that his boys have been issued a two-week break following the postponement.

“We decamp them as soon as possible. We gave them two weeks break.

“There is Covid-19 everywhere and the government are trying to put the measures on the ground to make sure everybody is safe during the festival and after the festival.

“So we are not disappointed really. But you know the government has the best plan for athletes and they want the best things for all of us as Nigerians.”

Adesina added that he is looking forward to the rescheduled tournament in two months’ time and that by then, Team Lagos would be fully prepared to bring back gold to the state.
