Remo Stars FC thumped Godosky FC 5-0 in their 2021 Nigerian National League opener on Sunday.
Coach of the Ogun-based club, Daniel Ogunmodede stated that he is not flattered by the scoreline, insisting that the three points is what really matters which is good for his players’ confidence.
“The most important thing is the three points that we won,” Ogunmodede told Sports247.
“For me, it’s not really about the goal margin. We won and we got the first three points of the season which is good for our confidence and for the young lads.”
Ogunmodede continued that his team goes into every encounter with the intent of winning.
“We just want to win every game. We just want to go into every game with the approach that we need to win. That’s just our intent and that’s how the club has always been.
Remo Stars are being praised for their beautiful free-flowing football under Ogunmodede. The tactician gave details of his approach.
“My philosophy is basically called Ija-ball. The basis of it is not actually tiki-taka,” he revealed.
“It’s a kind of consistently controlled possession-styled football that attacks with a fast pace. We utilize every opportunity to go forward, circulating the ball along the way.
“I want to say it’s an opportunity to have a kind of preview of what the philosophy of Ija-ball actually looks like.
“Hopefully as we go deep in the league we have more hypothesis to talk about the principles of play of Ija-ball,” Ogunmodede concluded.
