The death of Fashikun, a big loss to Nigeria Sports sector says Musa Nimrod

The President of Nigeria Volleyball Federation, Engineer Musa Nimrod has extended his condolences over the passing of the former multi-sport athlete, Olajide Fashikun.

 

The former Zamalek player died early Sunday after battling stroke for two weeks at the Federal Medical Center
Jabi, Airport Road Abuja.

Sympathizing with SWAN Abuja chapter, Nimrod wrote: “We have learned with great dismay and immense sadness the passing away of Director General of Nigeria Sports development Fund Initiative (NSDFI) on Sunday. This is a big loss to the sporting family including journalists in Nigeria.

He said: “The Volleyball family are extremely saddened by the news of the former Volleyball, Handball, Basketball and Baseball player passing away, a fine journalist and a gentleman for whom we have a lot respect.’’

Nimord prayed to God to accept his soul, and grant fortitude to the family and friends he left behind to bear the loss.

The president also condoled with the National Union of Journalists, Sports Writers Association and his partner Chief Mrs Mary Onyali over the demise of the former National Champion. .

Nimrod solicited for the support of the Federal Government of Nigeria, private sector and well meaning Nigerians to support the Nigeria Sports Development Fund (NSDFI) program left behind by late Olajide Fashikun which was to prepare for 5 sports at the Olympics.

Fashikun who died at the age of 54, won a gold medal at African Nations Cup, Lagos-Nigeria 1980, gold medal at African Nations Cup, Bauchi 1984; gold medal at NIPOGA 1985 in Kaduna; bronze medal at Nigeria Universities Games Association (NUGA) in 1988 in Calabar; gold medal of NUGA 1998 in Kano.
