Chilaka excitedly revealed this vision exclusively to sports247.ng after ‘The Oga Boys’ pulled off a dramatic and largely unexpected 4-1 thrashing of visiting Akwa United of Uyo on Sunday.
The matchday 15 victory at Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos Island meant Ikorodu City shot up to third spot on the NPFL table, and they have now gone six straight matches without defeat.
It is a marked difference from their position at the pit of the log up until September 28th, when Chilaka scored their first ever goal in the NPFL, but they still lost 2-1 at home against Nasarawa United of Lafia in a matchday 5 fixture.
The story has now turned full circle, with Coach Nurudeen Areworo’s side climbing to an all-time high, and Chilaka says they have been boosted with extra zeal and the confidence of plausible champions.
“We saw it coming, because we knew how we had been planning for the game,” said the product of Nordic Football Academy.
“We fought with all our strength, and we did everything to make sure we got the three points in our home.”
He also gave thanks to God for the amazing result and enthused that Ikorodu City will continue waxing stronger in order to finish well, as the season heads for a crescendo.
“We really thank God for everything He has done for us. This victory brings joy. It brings good feelings and happiness.
“It inspires us to keep on going and to keep on fighting hard; so that we will never retreat,” Chilaka stressed with delight.
He concluded with an affirmation that the Ikorodu-based NPFL debutants can now start thinking of themselves as potential champions in their first ever contest among top-flight Nigerian league sides.
“Now we have lifted ourselves high on the table, more than we were before.
“So, we are planning on winning the league title. We will train hard and keep on fighting.
“We will work harder and plan better, so that we’ll get to the top of the table. That is our programme and our plan,” Chilaka posited.
