Nigerian based number one Female Tennis player Sarah Adegoke has posited that players will not perform any wonder at the ongoing International Tennis Federation Lagos Open championship after crashing out of the tournament at the first round to South Africa’s 16-year-old Kruger Zoe.
Adegoke said not until the players have as much competition to feature in like their counterparts abroad, the event of playing just two national competitions before playing at the international level will not yield any positive.
“Tennis won’t make progress if we don’t plan well for events. It is worrisome to some us who are fully involved in the game,” Sarah Adegoke began in a chat with Sports247.ng.
“Our contemporaries abroad are exposed to many international competitions and get toughened whenever they face us.
“Tennis is a very technical sport. You can’t give what you don’t have. There is no two-way about it,” she explained.
“We need to be involved in many international competitions in order to be able to prove our mettle at the international stage. This has gone beyond just playing in one or two tournaments and thinking you will be ready to face more exposed opponents.”
