Team Nigeria Set to Face South Africa in Davis Cup World Group II Playoffs

Team Nigeria will depart Lagos on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, for the Davis Cup World Group II playoffs against South Africa.

The squad comprises four players: US-based Christopher Bulus and David Ekpeyong, alongside home-based talents Canice Abua and Micheal Emmanuel.

While Bulus and Ekpeyong will travel directly to Pretoria from the United States, Abua and Emmanuel will depart from Lagos.

The domestic players, who have been training in Abuja for several months in preparation for the tournament, are currently in Lagos for a six-day intensive camp.

Nigeria secured their spot in the World Group II playoffs after claiming one of three tickets in the Africa Group III Qualifying, held in Abuja last year.

This achievement marked a significant milestone for the team, following years of striving to rise from the Africa Group III.

In just two years, Nigeria progressed from Africa Group IV to the World Group II Playoffs. A victory against South Africa will elevate the team to Group II.

The five-match showdown between Nigeria and South Africa will take place at the Groenkloof Tennis Stadium in Tshwane, Pretoria, from February 1 to 2, 2025.
