Olaore will compete in the men’s heavyweight (92kg) division, while Ogunsemilore will vie for honors in the women’s (60kg) category.
Their arrival in Paris marks the beginning of an important journey as they aim to end Nigeria’s 28-year medal drought in Olympic boxing. The last Nigerian to secure a medal in the sport was Donkan Dokiwari, who clinched bronze in the super heavyweight category at the 1996 Olympic Games.
Unfortunately, the Nigerian boxing team suffered a setback with the withdrawal of Dolapo Omole due to an injury sustained during training. Omole was slated to compete in the 57kg division, and his absence is a significant blow to the team’s hopes.
Despite this challenge, both Ogunsemilore and Olaore are determined to make their mark. Their preparation and training have been intense, and they are focused on delivering standout performances to revive Nigeria’s boxing legacy on the Olympic stage.
Expectations are high, and the Nigerian boxing community is rallying behind these athletes, hopeful that they will bring home medals and restore the country’s pride in the sport. Their participation in Paris not only represents their personal ambitions but also the aspirations of a nation eager to see its athletes succeed.
