The Delta State Ethnic Peace and Unity Cup concluded with excitement on Sunday, as Team Itsekiri (Ugbomarun FC) claimed the top prize of ₦2 million by defeating Ndokwa East United 3-1 in the final match held at Baptist High School Field, Orerokpe Town.
The game was a thrilling showcase of skill and determination. Ekpeto Udubosi opened the scoring for Team Itsekiri in the 25th minute with a sensational strike.

Ndokwa East United leveled the score before halftime, thanks to a penalty coolly converted by their captain, Okoro Blessing.
In the second half, Team Itsekiri raised their game. Omatseye Eriyo gave them the lead in the 60th minute, followed by an 80th-minute clincher from Ebiwei Gbenedio. Despite their best efforts, Ndokwa East United could not recover.
In the third-place match, Team Urhobo (Udu United FC) secured a walkover victory after Team Isoko failed to show up, earning the bronze medals and a cash prize of ₦1 million.
The tournament, aimed at promoting unity and peaceful coexistence among Delta State’s ethnic groups, was a resounding success.
The champions, Team Itsekiri, walked away with gold medals, a trophy, and the grand prize of ₦2 million. Runners-up Ndokwa East United received ₦1.5 million and silver medals.
Chief Ken Nwoamucha, Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, celebrated the success of the event, saying, “This tournament has strengthened our ethnic harmony and celebrated the rich diversity of Delta State.”
