Nigeria’s Idowu Yinusa Abiodun has secured a bronze medal in the 65kg men’s armwrestling event at the All-African Games. Despite this achievement, Abiodun expressed mixed feelings about his performance.
In an interview with Sports 247, Abiodun shared, “I don’t feel happy winning bronze but I promise I’ll do better. I fought but it was not easy. My opponents were not stronger than me but I believe if I train harder, I’ll do better.”
Abiodun, who was the silver medalist in his class at the last African Games, had set his sights on gold this time around. “I came for gold this time around because I am the silver medalist in my class at the last African Games so my focus was on gold this time,” he said.
While acknowledging that winning a bronze medal is not a small feat, Abiodun is already looking ahead to future competitions. “Bronze is not bad, but I’ll do better next time,” he concluded.
Abiodun’s determination and commitment to improving his performance are clear indications of his resolve to bring more glory to Nigeria in the sport of arm wrestling. His story serves as an inspiration to other athletes to never settle but always strive for the best.
