Nigeria’s boxing team has made history at the All African Games. The team, led by coach Adura Olaleyin, has managed to secure ten spots in the semifinals and one in the final, a feat never before achieved in Nigerian boxing history, Sports247 report.

Olaleyin, a board member of the Nigerian Boxing Coach Association, expressed his excitement about the team’s performance. “I’ve been there, I’ve seen it. I think we have made history,” he said. “When you look at the history of boxing to get ten in the semifinal, one in the final. It has never happened in Nigerian boxing history. So God has done it, and God that started it will finish it.”
This achievement comes at a time when amateur boxing in Nigeria seemed to be on the decline, with even professional boxing struggling to maintain its footing. However, the current success of the team indicates a promising resurgence of the sport in the country.
One of the standout performers in the team is Cynthia, an already established Olympian. According to Olaleyin, the All African Games are just a stepping stone for her. “Cynthia is ready. She’s ready, and for me, I’m hoping Cynthia is going to be on the medal podium,” he stated.
With ten golds almost secured for Nigeria, one in the final already, and ten in the semifinal, the question on everyone’s lips is: how much gold is boxing promising Nigeria? Olaleyin, while not giving a specific number, assured Nigerians of multiple golds in the competition.
“I’m not going to tell you anything, but as I said before, God started, and God will finish it, but we are giving Nigerians gold in this competition. I can tell you, I’m giving Nigeria at least seven golds,” he confidently declared.
This achievement is a testament to the hard work put in by the coaches, boxers, officials, and technical secretary. It is a proud moment for Nigerian boxing and a beacon of hope for the future of the sport in the country. As the All African Games continue, all eyes will be on the Nigerian boxing team as they strive to bring home the gold.
